Deep West was built by two people who've spent their careers inside creative worlds — one behind the camera, one behind the frame.
Matt Bray
Matt brings three decades of master framing experience with one of Phoenix's most respected galleries, working closely with iconic Southwest artists including Ed Mell for that entire time. More than a framer, he is an artist in his own right — and he's been a collector and quiet champion of local artists throughout his career, someone who understands not just how art looks on a wall, but what it means to the people who make it.
Jackson Sturlin
Jackson is the creative engine behind Deep West. An Emmy Award-winning director with 30 years in television and media, he’s spent decades running production departments at major market TV stations — managing large teams while never losing his hands-on creative instincts. Raised between the Sonoran Desert and the Grand Tetons, he was shaped by both extremes. That lifelong connection to art and the West, combined with his natural ability to bring people together, is at the heart of what makes Deep West feel like a community, not just a marketplace.
Together, we launched Deep West with a straightforward mission: bring serious curatorial eyes to a marketplace that celebrates the West in all its forms — traditional and contemporary, reverent and rebellious.
We believe a piece of art holds the energy its maker poured into it, and when the right piece finds the right person, something real happens.
Our job is to make that connection as accessible as possible — because art belongs in the hands of people who will live with it, love it, and let it mean something.

We're not interested in a quick handshake and a sale. We want to know what makes you stop in front of a painting, feel drawn to a piece of jewelry, or connect with the story behind a vintage work. We carry paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and Western ephemera, and source directly from artists we know — emerging voices and nationally recognized names alike. We want to understand how your taste evolves — because it will. The longer we work together, the better we get at bringing you pieces you didn't know you needed. That kind of relationship is honestly our favorite part of this work.
